Karl & Deborah MalouffWe serve as HRock’s Lead Pastors as of 2014. Our main focus is to oversee our pastoral team and the ministries of the church. Personal Background

Deborah and I were married in 1981, and we often do marriage seminars sharing how God has deepened our relationship over the years. We met at a Campus Crusade Leadership Institute in Northern Colorado. We have two children. Our daughter, Melissa, who was part of the worship team at HRock, is now the Worship Leader at Expressions Church in Austin, Texas. Our son, Ryan, was a pastor of the children’s ministry in a large church in the Seattle area before planting Expressions Church in Austin, Texas in January 2014 with his wife, Pastor Dana, and Jack and Emma, our grandkids. We were senior pastors of a church in Pasadena from ‘84 to ’95, when we merged with HRock in September of that year, along with three other churches. What an amazing journey it continues to be!

Education Background

I have a B.A. in Business Administration from Adams State University, Colorado (1971). Both Pastor Deborah and I completed a Doctor of Practical Ministry through Wagner Leadership Institute (2012). My greatest education has come from walking with God and being part of His Church. My mentors, from afar, early on included Pastor Jack Hayford from Church On The Way and John Wimber from The Vineyard. In the last 10 years, it has been more from the Bethel Team of Bill Johnson and Kris Vallotton. But for us, up close, there has been no greater influence for our good than Pastors Ché and Sue.

Interests and Favorites

Deborah and I love both the beach and the mountains. We really enjoy travel and have been to several parts of the world, including our favorite place, Israel. Thanks to my family giving me music for my iPod, I listen to contemporary Christian and classical music, as well as some country. We have enjoyed many books over the years. I am currently reading The Making of a Leader by J. Robert Clinton. I also enjoy authors like Danny Silk and the Bethel team. I’ve read C.S. Lewis’ Chronicles of Narnia many times to my kids.

I don’t follow sports regularly (just during playoffs), but otherwise I like the Dodgers, the Lakers and the Broncos (since I was raised in Colorado). As far as movies go, I enjoy all kinds. We don’t often go to theaters but instead wait for a night at home with popcorn and a DVD. I have to admit I cry watching movies that touch the heart. I love seeing the spiritual significance behind what I see. Another one of my favorite things to do is bike riding, especially at the beach with Pastor Deborah.

Fun Fact

My dad owned a restaurant and lounge so growing up I was trained in the art of mopping floors, cleaning toilets, etc. and later bar tending, which all turned out to be great preparation for pastoring!

Current Favorite Verse

2 Corinthians 4:1-2 - “Therefore, since through God’s mercy we have this ministry, we do not lose heart. Rather, we have renounced secret and shameful ways; we do not use deception, nor do we distort the word of God. On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly we commend ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God.”

Deborah

My heart is to share God's love and truth through prophetic exhortation, discipleship and leadership. I'm thrilled to see people released to fulfill their purpose in life. At HRock, I also oversee Women’s Rock, our Women’s Ministry and Prayer/Intercession. Karl and I host the Tuesday Night Worship & Prayer Service along with a Cell Group afterwards.

Personal Background

I grew up on a farm in Iowa where I learned the value of family, work and reliance on God. I've enjoyed playing sports and singing. Karl and I have been married 33 years and have 2 children and 2 grandchildren. Throughout the years, I've led worship, women's ministry, retreats, worship and marriage seminars, along with counseling and prayer. I have seen many people changed through love, acceptance and forgiveness. I am an RN and also work part-time as a Home Health Care Nurse.

Education Background

I graduated with a B.S.N. from University of Iowa. I also went through the staff training with Campus Crusade for Christ. More recently, I received a Doctor of Practical Ministry through Wagner Leadership Institute in 2012.

Favorites and Interests

I love to explore new areas and travel. I prefer the outdoors and learning about nature, but I love museums, too. I cherish family and friends and enjoy cooking for them. I especially love sports and music. The sports and teams I watch are the Lakers, the Hawkeyes, the Broncos, Women's College Basketball and Track, the Olympics and pretty much anything! I listen to worship music in every style—everything from Nat King Cole to Carrie Underwood.

I also like a variety of books! I love books by Graham Cooke, Jim Goll, Bill Johnson, Kris Vallotton and pastoral books by Jack Hayford and John Wimber. I also enjoy historical novels, as well as how-to and cookbooks. A few favorite films are It's a Wonderful Life, The Count of Monte Cristo and The Blind Side. I’d pick any good classic or romantic comedy. My other hobbies include cooking, collecting recipes/cookbooks, hiking and being outdoors.

Favorite Verse

John 14:6 - “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life, and no one comes to the Father except through Me.”
