We hear a lot today about the hope of our calling. We have forgiveness and redemption from our sin (Eph. 1:7; Col. 1:14); we are a new creation in Christ (2 Cor. 5:17), seated in heavenly places (Eph. 2:6) and members of God’s eternal family (Gal. 3:26-29; Eph. 2:18-22). We have been given God’s Holy Spirit (Gal. 4:6; Eph. 1:18-20), authority over demonic strongholds (Luke 10:19), prosperity (Phil. 4:19), and we have been commanded to heal the sick and set the captives free (Mark 16:17-18).
What an incredible resume God has blessed us with! It will clearly take us eternity to discover it all! But we seldom hear about the hope of His calling.
Did you know that Abba God has His own hope in a very special calling to each one of us? Ephesians 1:17-18 states, “I pray to the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ to grant you a spirit of wisdom and revelation into the deep and intimate knowledge of Him by having the eyes of your heart flooded with light that you may know what is the hope of His calling and what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints.”
Abba God calls each of us out of darkness and into the light through a relationship of complete intimacy with Him. This call is a divine invitation to share the deepest desires of His heart. He wants us to know Him and what He is doing from eternity to eternity. The purpose of this intimacy is described in Ephesians 1:4: “Even as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world to be holy and without blemish before Him in love.”
He is loving us into perfection so that we become just like Him. Abba God is not just calling us to love, but to literally become the love of God. He will never stop until we stand before Him holy and without blemish as He is. God originally created us in His image to reflect His glory. From the beginning, we were designed for communion and union with Him! It is our eternal destiny!
We receive an inheritance of many blessings through our relationship with Abba God. This call to intimacy and union with Him is His inheritance in His relationship with us. It’s an inheritance so precious to Him that He gave everything—even the death and suffering of His Son, Jesus—to obtain it. He describes His inheritance in us as the riches of glory.
Have you any idea that Abba God values intimacy with you so much? Start spending time alone with Him. Ask Him to meet you there in the quiet. Be still and confidently wait upon Him. Let Him reveal to you the deepest desires of His heart as He surrounds you with His abiding presence!
I invite you to come and be a part of our church family this Sunday at our 9:30 & 11:30 AM services. I will be sharing the second part of “The Church Set on a Hill Cannot Be Hidden” in continuation of our “Light of the World” Series. May God’s glorious light shine upon you!
